VFX Artist

We're looking for a VFX Artist to join our team and help us push forward an exciting new project!

Chuhai Labs is an indie developer / publisher founded in 2002 by Nintendo alumnus Giles Goddard who developed classic titles including Star Fox, 1080 Snowboarding, Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Chuhai Labs is located in the beautiful city of Kyoto, Japan.

What We Need You To Do

  • Help design all VFX concepts and style guides, aiding the Art Director and Technical Artist to define the direction of all VFX for the game.

  • Create every visual effect in the game from scratch, across a wide variety that consistently complement the game’s striking stylized aesthetic.

  • Work closely with technical art and engineering teams to optimize performance of VFX on target platforms, and ensure all assets are successfully integrated into the game.

  • Work with the Lead Artist and Project Manager to ensure all environment related tasks are properly estimated and managed.
     

Required Experience & Knowledge

  • 3+ years of commercial game development experience.

  • Have shipped at least one commercial game.

  • Proficient and comfortable using the Unity game engine.

  • Experience creating high-quality, stylized, real-time VFX in Unity.

  • Experience working with Unity’s Visual Effect Graph.

  • Self-motivated, well-organized, and proactive about expanding knowledge and learning new skills.

  • Experience working with version control software (such as Perforce, Git etc.).
     

Preferred Attributes

  • 5+ years of commercial game development experience.

  • Multiple shipped commercial games on a variety of platforms, particularly home consoles.

  • Experience working with Unity Shader Graph.

  • Currently resides in Japan.
